They have one of the most famous “feuds” in the industry, but honestly, they love each other like brothers. At least Ryan Reynolds honestly feels that way about Hugh Jackman.
“And now that I’ve gotten older too, I find it so valuable to work with people I love, adore, trust and have known for a long time,” Reynolds told Yahoo Entertainment in a new interview in which he’s promoting his upcoming Christmas comedy. musical spicy. “And [with] Most of the films I make these days involve either working with people I’ve always wanted to work with or with friends and family. And I consider Hugh more in the family category than even friends.”
That’s why Reynolds is so excited about Jackman reprising his role as Wolverine as the pair enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time in 2024. Deadpool 3— something we learned in a stunning (and reliably funny) announcement end of September.
Reynolds revealed to us the backstory of how Jackman, who supposedly hung his claws when his X-Man perished in James Mangold’s 2017’s Gritty and Beloved Loganended up in the MCU with him.
“That was something I had asked or hoped to achieve since the first meeting I had with [Marvel chief] Kevin Feige after Disney bought Fox,” Reynolds said. ‘And that was impossible. This was years ago and then it was not possible.
“And then out of the blue Hugh called and said he was interested in coming back and I took another stab at the boss and I said to Kevin, ‘He’s asking to come back… This is something what Hugh is interested in and chasing.’ And for whatever reason, Kevin saw the wisdom in that and said ‘Yes’, and we go to the races, so for me it’s a dream come true.”
Reynolds is also excited that Shawn Levy, who has helmed two of his most recent projects – 2021’s free man and this year’s Netflix release The Adam Project – will lead them in Deadpool 3.
“The same goes for Shawn Levy,” Reynolds says of the “family” title. “This is now our third film together. So it’s a lot of fun.”

“Not even in the distance,” laughs Reynolds. “Singing and dancing is in that man’s DNA. It’s not in mine. But for me it was super exciting to tackle something that was obscenely challenging and scary.”
