Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno and Sally Field Go on Epic Girls Trip to the Super Bowl in ’80s for Brady’s Trailer

Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno and Sally Field are ready for some soccer – and other fun and games – in the new trailer for 80 for Brady. But surprisingly, there is very little Tom Brady.

The film comedy, inspired by a true story, sees the famous actresses as the ultimate senior girl gang who also happen to be Brady superfans. On a whim – bored with their lives despite being pretty glamorous eighties – they go on a girls trip to see the New England Patriots at the 2017 Super Bowl in Houston.

“This could be Tom’s last. He’s almost 40 — that’s about 80 in human years,” Tomlin jokes about Brady appearing in and producing the film. Of course, we all know it wasn’t his Super Bowl or game – although he now pitches for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

As they gather and fly off to the NFL’s first sporting event, they forget one key factor in attending the Super Bowl: tickets, which are notoriously expensive. (Think: thousands.)

So the Social Security crew tries to figure out how to get into the big game – as, of course, Field enters a spicy hotwing eating BBQ contest hosted by Guy Fieri. (“Bring the pain!” shouts the foodie.) Or pretend to be Billy Porter’s backup dancers. The women all have their different ways of achieving the goal, including Fonda on the hunt who ends up in a closet with Harry Hamlin. Another funny moment is Moreno trying to escape from a guard, who easily stops the ‘Golden Girls’.

There’s surprisingly little Brady in a movie’s trailer, with his name in the title, but he’s cheering his teammates on in the blink of an eye and you missed it. “Let’s go!” exclaims the seven-time Super Bowl champion (and new divorcée) – his only words. (And we’ll add that they’re more G-rated than some of his recent tirades on the field.) He’s played himself in movies before, like in 2015 Teddy 2but this is expected to be a bigger role, at least more than the 5 seconds in which he walks the field would suggest.

Brady’s favorite tight end Rob Gronkowski, who Fonda also ends up getting up close and personal with, actually says more than the QB. “Grunk!” the wide-eyed Fonda gushes. “Hello,” he says, the now retired player. “So big,” she says. “Thank you,” he replies during the funny/awkward locker room encounter.

Although there is a football theme, the film goes deep into friendship. (“Isn’t that what friendship is?” Field asks at one point. “We’re going into the unknown together?”) But they’re also downright hijinks — like Moreno getting a surprising dose of some kind of hallucinogen that makes her sees a full room of Fieris.

The film, directed by Kyle Marvin, will hit theaters on February 3, 2023.
