Jessica Simpson speaks out because she is concerned about her well-being.

The singer and fashion mogul’s Pottery Barn Kids ad went viral last week, not for her daughter Birdie’s adorable room, but because fans were concerned in the comments about her speech and appearance. Simpson made another video about the “quirky hate” and said she’s been sober for five years.

“As much as I’ve learned to shut out destructive sounds… people’s comments and judgments can still hurt deeply with their incessant nagging ‘you’ll never be good enough,'” she wrote. “The most important thing I’ve learned in the past 5 years without alcohol being a guard against escapism is that I CAN AND WILL ALWAYS get through it.”

Simpson said: “I feel sorry for the cocky hatred that some people can express so effortlessly and with such intensity on social media or in the media in general. We all have our days of wanting to be, look, do and do better. make us feel better. No one is alone with that feeling I can promise you.”

She said she woke up “anxious and insecure, but also angry and defensive.” So she connected with herself through songs in her studio (singing: “I’m more than my body, I’m more than my wealth…”) and shared her raw performance.

Simpson – calling herself “stable and strong” – ended her post with a “little piece of advice” for her fans to follow their dreams and not give up on themselves. She said that has worked for her in her life in the spotlight.

“Nothing and no one will rob me of my joy,” she concluded. “You may come close, but it’s mine to own. Yours should be too.’

Simpson shared the ad late last week and it was inundated with comments. Many seemed to express genuine concern for Simpson, noting that she looked “fragile” amid her weight loss. Others wrote about her slurred speech.

The concerns continue after the new video. One person wrote, “I just hope you’re okay.”

In January 2020, Simpson went public with her addiction to pills and alcohol. She said she “taken my own life” by starting drinking early every morning, before going sober in 2017 after going black at her family Halloween party. She described her addiction in her memoir, Open book, that year, including being drunk during an infamous Ellen DeGeneres Show appearance. She also wrote about physical struggles, including undergoing tummy tucks (including a risky one) after having her first two children. Since giving birth to Birdie, her youngest with husband Eric Johnson, she has lost 100 pounds (for the third time), citing small, safe lifestyle changes.

Open book is the inspiration for a new TV pilot just completed starring John Stamos and Katelyn Tarver. Simpson shared a photo with the couple on set for the Amazon Freevee project, which is about a pop star (Tarver) and a fading singer-songwriter (Stamos). Simpson said the project, a reinterpretation of her own life story, was a “week of pure magic”, adding: “Going back in time from self-discovery to 25 years old has moments of intense emotional vulnerability. Hot dang I almost knew nothing’ long ago, but I was ready for discovery, even in my embarrassment and innocence.”

Simpson serves as an executive producer on the TV project and also juggles running her billion-dollar fashion empire, Jessica Simpson Lifestyle Brand, which she recently reacquired.
